... and from the very extensive cross section of comments in response to the original article it is good to note that at least people care enough to respond.
As long as there is some response and such debate there is hope I think.
Cheers

Scary.
Somehow this scares me far more than the scenario here in our part of the world. Maybe its a very limited view on my side. Not saying that there is no danger right here from such fundamentalism and fascism. Godhra, Mumbai and the ongoing covert/overt war in Kashmir, etc, are proof enough of the accuracy of Mr. Hedges observations.

But the scary part for me is the sheer economic & military power held by the USA and the way it can influence the world. Somehow an army of extreme right wing bible thumpers armed to the teeth with every known weapon system known (and many unknown!) to man is a lot scarier than a rag tag bunch of militant jehadis waiting to ascend into Paradise or a assorted bunch of crazed Ram bhakts calling themselves various simian titles going around vandalizing Valentine day festivals, ghazal concerts, etc.

And it's not like this is the future. Its already happened with Iraq. Will Iran be next? Then Korea? If you are a conspiracy theory buff you might read some meaning in the statement made yesterday (or the day before) about Musharaf by the US. It could very well be a warning... or a glimpse of things to come.... eh?

This topic might go on for a while... am very interested to hear what others have to say.
