‘Tis The Season…

… for many things, including hibernation. And that is what this blog has been doing since early this month. For a number of reasons, including, in no particular order, that I’ve been occupied with work (somewhat unusual!), I’ve been spending an unexpected amount of time on getting the hang of WordPress since my recent migration, I’ve been working on another site which is less personal than this or somewhat professionally personal…. oh whatever! :o)

The world, in its delightfully characteristic fashion, or should that be characteristically delightful fashion, is going about being the world. Events have taken place, momentous or otherwise, undeterred by the lack of scrutiny of my individual consciousness, so while I’ve been out of touch with the news, the news doesn’t seem to have been too bothered by this. Not that there’s anything I’d want to change even if I knew about it either, eh?

For now, I’m resorting to somewhat dubious means - I’ve installed the Archivist plugin for WordPress; which as the name hints at, brings up a random posting from the past and displays it on the homepage. A blast from the past, as it where, perhaps interesting, perhaps inane, but who knows, sometimes its interesting to look back…. and smile! I also realized along the way (aided no doubt by the migration process) that this blog had become rather big - in terms of posts, size, the whole lot. And that there was some pleasure in looking back in time, viz. at old writings. And so I’m trying to make the archives (as blogging software refers to old posts) more accessible. For whom? Doesn’t matter, more than half the fun has to do with figuring out…. what plugin to use, how to get it to work, and then seeing what happens. The getting-it-to-work bit turns out deceptively demanding at times, like with the Extended Live Archives plugin by Arnaud Froment. So now I have an archives page as the plugin promises, but all that you have when you get there is a 404 Error Message! Ah well.

My other site is growing, albeit a little slower than I’d like, but perhaps that’s the way it ought to be. Maybe some day soon, I may opt to merge the two together as there are a number of ways in which they touch each other already. Apart from the fact that they both live inside my head that is! :o)

To those of you who are based in Bombay, make sure you go out to vote tomorrow. It’s important. And to everyone else, happy February!
