before forming my views on meditation, I list questions that I have regarding meditation.

1> Is meditation concentration or dillution of mind.
2> Is attention in any way associated with meditation?
3> Why is there a need to meditation?
4> Is it a process to stop thinking totally or think more on any subject?

I have few more questions on this subject, but needs some thought before putting them down.

Thanks for the lesson in humility Jignesh, definitely need to have my ego punctured every now and then, going by HH's views on this what" :o)

I'm going to use a few of your own words to reply with - effect of the drug wearing off, feeling amazingy relaxed, if meditation is about sitting in one position....

The first couple seem to point to letting some substance take over, of mind alteration in some fashion or other. Will discuss mind alteration as opposed to mind numbing or withdrawal in some other posting.

Whereas meditation seems to be about using the mind itself as the instrument for the investigation. Into the mind, or whatever else it is that is being investigated. Unaltered, unmodified and un-dulled. An analogy that comes to mind (!:o)!) is that of doing brain surgery on yourself - would you use anesthetic? Or not use it? :o)

By the same token, I'm not inclined to agree that meditation is just about sitting still, though this may facilitate the beginner's first attempts at meditating. Nor does just sitting still qualify as meditating may I hasten to add - for by that logic, it would appear that a lot of pavement beggars are meditation adepts!

So if not this, then what as you've rightly asked. What would be your view about what meditation is? Extremely eager to understand more!

Lets work out!!

When a man takes his shot of marijuana or magic mushrooms, does not have any cravings at all for anything, does not feel particularly hungry and takes to the silence. The person feels amazingly relaxed so as to not have to talk or think! Next day when the efect of the drug wears of, every little sound feels terrible and noisy and it takes some time to adjust to the chaos in the world ! :o)

If sitting in one position for hours as meditation than every tree, for that matter every stone is a perfect example of meditation.

We need this GYM to define Meditation first. Maybe then we can have some more clarity on the subject. Some how the earlier article on meditation was still not enough to explain the concept or the meaning of meditation.
